FlyQuest qualify for League of Legends worlds

FlyQuest jungler Lucas "Santorin" Larsen and his team have qualified for the League of Legends World Championship after an upset of Cloud9 in the League Championship Series summer playoffs on Thursday.

FlyQuest became the second League of Legends team in the world to qualify for the 2020 League of Legends World Championship with a 3-1 victory over Cloud9 on Thursday in the League Championship Series summer playoffs.

The first team to qualify for worlds was Rogue from Europe's League of Legends European Championship.

Despite uneven performances toward the end of the summer split, Cloud9 were still favored to win the matchup after dominating North America's LCS for most of the year. FlyQuest came out swinging with proactive early moves in Game 1 led by FlyQuest jungler Lucas "Santorin" Larsen and his Lillia pick. Cloud9 relied on the Ezreal/Yuumi combination in all four of the games, which FlyQuest were able to counter in all but one game with stronger initiation and teamfighting.

A relatively unsung hero of the matchup was FlyQuest top laner Colin "Solo" Earnest, who played Shen all four games, allowing his team to set up winning engagements and counter Cloud9.

The win over C9 brings FlyQuest to Round 4 of the playoffs (essentially the winners' bracket finals), which means that at worst they will be North America's third seed. If they qualify for the LCS final, they will earn one of the top two seeds and skip the worlds play-in qualifier bracket.
