Riot Games Releases Medical-Themed 'League of Legends' Skins for COVID-19 Relief

Riot Games will release medical-themed skins for some of its most popular League of Legends characters. The new initiative of cosmetics will have its sales proceedings donated to coronavirus-related charity efforts. Legends like Akali, Shen, and Kennen will receive skins alongside various icons, emotes, and other cosmetic upgrades.

Each item will be sold individually but a bundle with all the content will also be available alongside an exclusive icon. According to Riot Games, the items will be available starting July 23 with 100 percent of the proceeds going directly to the developer's charitable arm, the Riot Games Social Impact Fund.

"Your donations will directly support pandemic relief by giving doctors, nurses, and other frontline workers the resources they need to act quickly and protect those most vulnerable," Riot said in a statement. "Money raised will also provide critical financial aid to families and individuals who've been negatively impacted by the virus." According to Riot Games lead producer Joe Tung "This is a non-profit fund which allows us to distribute money directly to local nonprofits in your communities around the world."

Riot Games previously held a 48-hour charity League of Legends broadcast to aid COVID-19 efforts, and according to a press release, has donated $4.5 million USD to the cause.

The fundraiser event is running from now until July 23 at 1:00 pm PST. More details can be found on the League of Legends website.
